Robin Allender is a guitarist, singer and songwriter from Bristol, UK.
Robin has collaborated with numerous artists and bands and has released music under his own name as well as that of The Allender Band and Three-Cornered Moon.
Returning to his hometown of Bristol after university, Allender quickly integrated himself into the citys thriving DIY scene, playing in bands and performing solo shows in venues like The Croft, The Cube Cinema and The Folk House, supporting acts such as David Thomas Broughton, Broadcast and Leafcutter John.
In 2005, Robin and his friends set up Dreamboat Records to promote his music, as well as that of The Rollercoaster Project (now achieving great success under the name Fairewell). Allenders four-track demos were picked up by blogs such as Said the Gramophone and Shake Your Fist, and, with this encouragement, he recorded a solo album, The Bird and the Word, songs from which were played on BBC 6Music.
In 2007, Robin joined Warp Records Gravenhurst and toured extensively, supporting Animal Collective, Explosions in the Sky and Grizzly Bear.
Around this time, Robin formed The Allender Band to accompany him live and in the studio. Through Dreamboat the band released an EP, In the Grip of Light, and an album, Outer Dark, tracks from which were played on BBC Radio 2 and 6Music by Mark Radcliffe, Gideon Coe and Steve Lamacq, who interviewed the band on his show.
In 2009, Robin joined the touring band of Yann Tiersen, a band he continues to play in. Promoting Yanns albums Dust Lane and Skyline, the band has toured Europe, Russia, China, South America and the US.
In breaks from touring, Allender worked on a studio project with drummer Dave Collingwood called Three-Cornered Moon. They recorded a six-track album in 2010 which is available to download for free.
2012 saw the release of a brand new Robin Allender EP, Spirit’s Sleep. The EP is a continuation of Robins work with The Allender Band, but also shows the influence of James Blackshaw, Mark Kozelek and (naturally) Yann Tiersen.
Robin also plays guitar with Felix (Kranky) and bass with The Revival Hour (featuring DM Stith and members of The Earlies).
